If I had to categorize them, they fall under the topics of theatre (Stoppard, Hamlet, the Standing “O”, moving my own creative projects forward, V Woolf). Some are pure critique (Hamnet, V Woolf).
Others are life observations (dealing with a flooded apartment, becoming a great uncle, a cold or worse that interrupted my life, what to do when one first gets up for the day, current lingo).
Some overlapped. ”Reflections after Two Weeks Under the Weather” may have been about being sick, but it also highlighted how it slowed down creativity. I was surprised that my posts about weathering a broken ankle all fall did not garner more attention. Maybe because it actually encouraged creative output, rather than impeding it.
What Drew People In?
Maybe it was the photos that accompanied the text. Maybe it was the timing of when it was posted (I tried to be consistent with posting first thing Sunday). Maybe it had to do with posts being reposted and shared (no doubt).
I also noticed in the stats that number of times opened did not equal number of views. No doubt the Substack statisticians among you can account for this.
Does all this affect what I will post in the future? Probably not.
